July 9: Herbal First Aid 101 (7-9pm)

$75.00

Long before the pharmacy, people reached for plants.

Herbal First Aid 101 is an evening with Wild Captives and herbalist Rachael Lange: a hands-on introduction to the plants our ancestors trusted for cuts, burns, bites, bruises, and the small hurts of everyday life. You'll learn to recognize them, prepare them, and actually use them, the way people did for thousands of years before any of it came in a tube.

It's a slower, more connected way of caring for yourself and the people around you. Whether you're starting a home apothecary, spending more time outside, or just curious what's been growing underfoot this whole time, you'll leave with real skills and a salve you made with your own hands.

Your ticket includes:

  • A guided hands-on workshop led by herbalist and House of Kin co-founder Rachael Lange

  • The fundamentals of medicinal herbs for cuts, burns, bites, bruises, and inflammation

  • Safe plant identification and responsible, sustainable harvesting

  • Live demonstrations of salves, poultices, sprays, and other herbal preparations

  • Your own herbal salve to make and take home

  • A blueprint for building your own portable herbal first aid kit

  • Herbal tea and seasonal drinks all evening

  • An official Wild Captives merit badge

  • A few Wild Captives surprises

No experience needed. Bring your curiosity, a notebook if you like, and a willingness to get your hands a little herbal. 🌿

About the Instructor:
Rachael Lange is a New York City–based herbalist with extensive training in traditional Western herbalism and community herbal practice. She has studied under renowned herbalist Robin Rose Bennett, completed over 1,000 hours of apprenticeship and work at Flower Power Herbs & Roots in the East Village, and spent 10 weeks interning at Herb Pharm, where she worked on an organic, regenerative herb farm while receiving immersive herbal education in southern Oregon. She is currently apprenticing with Antonia Perez at Herban Cura.

Originally from Texas, Rachael has been deeply connected to the outdoors throughout her life. After moving to Los Angeles in her late teens, her passion for hiking, camping, gardening, and spending time in nature grew into a dedicated study of plants and herbal medicine. Through years of  foraging, gardening, outdoor adventure, and farming she has gained both practical and educational experience using herbs to address common outdoor ailments such as cuts, scrapes, burns, insect stings, tick bites, and minor injuries.

In this Herbal First Aid class, Rachael will introduce essential herbs and preparations to include in a home or travel first aid kit. Participants will learn how to identify and work with key first-aid plants, build their own herbal first aid toolkit, and explore practical preparations such as poultices, succus, fomentations, infused oils, and salves. Combining traditional herbal knowledge with hands-on applications, this class is designed to help participants feel confident using plants to support everyday health and minor first-aid situations.
